What is waxing?

Waxing is a common method of hair removal. It involves applying warm wax on your skin and then quickly removing it, taking the hair and root with it. There are two types of wax: hard and soft.

Hard wax

Sheila uses hard wax when treating delicate areas of the body, like the face (upper lip, chin, eyebrows), underarms, and bikini area. Sheila offers full-face waxing for women.

Soft wax

Sheila uses soft was when treating larger, more durable areas of the body, like the legs, arms, back, and chest.

How do I prepare for waxing?

To get the best possible results from waxing, you need to let the hair to be treated grow about a half inch above the skin. If your hair is too short, the wax can’t fully grasp it to pull it out.

Sheila requests you not shower or bathe before your waxing because soaking the hair makes it softer and more prone to breaking during the waxing process, affecting your results.

What can I expect during waxing?

Sheila customizes your waxing treatment so you get the results you want. She reviews her technique with you so you know what to expect.

First, she cleans your skin with an antiseptic agent and may then lightly dust your skin with talcum powder to ensure it’s dry. She then applies the wax to your skin and quickly removes it, pulling it in the opposite direction of your hair growth.

Many people fear waxing because of the pain. But most of Sheila’s patients find waxing tolerable and get used to the sensation. The level of discomfort you feel depends on your pain tolerance.

If you find waxing intolerable, even after a few treatments, Sheila may suggest applying a numbing cream to your skin before treatment to reduce discomfort.

What happens after waxing?

Sheila provides specific at-home care instructions after your waxing to prevent ingrown hairs and breakouts. She recommends gently exfoliating your skin to remove dead skin cells and avoiding bar soap, which can leave a soap film on the skin.

You can repeat your waxing about every 30 days. Because waxing pulls the hair at the root, it grows back softer, finer, and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.
