Licorice was once used by ancient cultures to treat coughs and colds – due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and expectorant qualities-and recent studies indicate it may be effective for treating gastric ulcers, chronic hepatitis, and Addison’s disease (adrenal insufficiency).
